...And One More Thing...

This is what I am centering my room decor around.  I have always loved the Wizard of Oz, and when I found these (die-cut) cards at Tuesday Morning...I just couldn't resist.  I wasn't sure what to do with them, so they sat around in their box for quite some time.  Then...it dawned on me...'WoO is mostly a dream, why not frame them for your room???'

And THAT is a sneak peak of what is to come!  :)

The Inspiration for the Desk

So here we are!  The piece of artwork that I bought in 2007 (side note: at an art show benefiting battered/abused women and children) has FINALLY been framed.  Long story short, this is the first time that I am getting to decorate my own space MY way.  That is partly why I started this blog, and the other part was so I could document how much fun I'm having getting to do all this and learn so many great things.  Anyway, onto the beginnings of my decorating!  (I am having to do one thing at a time, silly budgeting!)

Everyone (ok, not EVERYone) says this is kind of an odd piece, but something about it caught my attention.  I'm not exactly sure what, but I know what it means to me.  Not to mention all my money went to help a shelter...  So, I know you can't tell from the photo, but the black matte is actually semi-textured and semi-glittery, just to add a bit of a pop to stand out from the frame.  (I wish I had a picture of my face when I saw this come outta the back, lol!)

So while I was waiting for that lovely piece, I found some yarns to match so I could make some vases!

As you can see...the yellow yarn I picked out (strictly b/c the color matched so well) didn't work too great. I mean, it looks good, but just a tip if you're going to try it...make sure the yarn doesn't vary in thickness, that's how you get those little waves.

And VOILA!!  I'm in L-O-V-E with this and the potential to make a bright, airy, fun and happy place for myself.  A sanctuary of color.  :)

New to the DIY Scene

So as the title states, I'm new to this...I forgot the "before" picture. Whoops!

Here's the finished product!

Ok ok, its still not *completely* assembled, (meaning the drawer has not been put back in place b/c I can't carry the desk up my stairs) but they give you a good idea of what it turned out like. :)

So this is after 1 can (and basically one coat) of Rustoleum's "Summer Squash."

The drawer pull was old brass that I thought would clash with the yellow I chose, so I picked out a "Granite" for that little piece.

"What's next?" you ask... well, the inspiration for the color and more DIY from little old me, finally getting to decorate MY way. :) And I couldn't be happier!

Wow, it has been a whiiiiiile...

This all seems very strange to be writing a new blog after so long...but I'm ready to get back to it, or technically start.

The reason I am choosing today to start up again is...I GOT A NEW COMPUTER! So that, ladies (and gentlemen) is why. Plus I just *had* to get a new desk to go with it. And that's the real reason...a new desk = a new project.

I found a great wood desk on CL for $30, thanks to someone not paying their rent on storage, I have a fun time ahead of me. Its not in bad shape, and everything works great. I cannot change out the hardware on the drawer, which is fine, I'll just make it prettier. :) SO! After doing some googling and finding this, I have decided to give it a whirl and paint the desk.

Pics to come later, hopefully it turns out amazing!!
